The Liger is cool. BTW still a cat, feline. There is evolution within the genetic DNA code, not outside of it. An organism that started in the ocean and then evolved into something else is a lie. When the Earth was formed it was void of life. An organism never evolved into a chimp then to a human. Scientifically impossible.
Felids are weird, they have the odd distinction of being able to hybridize and produce fertile ofspring despite distance of relation, hence the existence of Felis Silvestris Catus x Prionailurus Bengalensis hybrids, two animals of different genera, who can produce fertile offspring, Bengal Cats, which are regularly bred with domestic cats.
I bring this up because it introduces the species problem, the fact that the concept of the species is a sort of flawed concept created more for the sake of humans than a reflection of nature. The idea that animals cant evolve into new species is incorrect as the concept of species is mildly arbitrary. On a technicality, birds are actually reptiles, something lost in linnean taxonomy. If you want to get technical, you and I and all tetrapods are just land fish.
