Good stuff. In the other thread I said Hungarians would be balkanic genetically if it weren't for the German admixture. I take that back. Many northern hungarians and alföld people seem to be very west slavic-like.Quote:

South Asians are closer to West Asians in my opinion than to East Asians, who are of Mongoloid race. But indeed, some of these individuals have surprisingly large amount of overall Mongoloid components, given that they live in East-Central Europe for many-many centuries. It's just another proof, that because of their isolation they preserved better the original genes of Hungarian Conquerors.Quote:

We don't have any autosomal study on Hungarian Conquerors yet (it will come out this year though), but based on their Y-DNA and mtDNA they didn't seem to have carried South Asian haplogroups. South Asian genes in the modern population of the Carpathian Basin might've came with the Romas, Armenians, or who knows who else, because this area was a massive melting pot all its history, given the meeting point of the West and East and the very welcoming policies towards foreigners of the Hungarian state.Quote:

Indeed, among Northern Hungarians there is often some distant or not so distant Rusyn, Slovak or Polish ancestor based on my conversations. Surprisingly Transdanubia Hungarians are not as German-shifted as Northern Hungarians are Slavic-shifted, but they are very similar to regular Hungarians, based on the distance, almost identical. The same can be said of Budapest Hungarians. Alföld Hungarians are also very close to average Hungarians but in the same time very close to Northern South Slavs, unsurprisingly. Now the other group are the three Eastern Hungarian groups, which seem to form a cluster of their own: Transylvania, Székely and Csángó. Before this study I even believed that Transylvanian Hungarians will be more similar to average Hungarians than to Székelys, but these two seem to almost be identical to each other. Also interestingly all these three groups are more similar to Serbians and Bulgarians than to their close neighbors, the Romanians.
