This site is great as they keep getting more ancient samples. There are more Icelandic samples now and they are calling them correctly as a Gaelic/Viking mix.

Nothing changed for me. I have now one more match with the seleucid empire. But it didnt went into my "ancient closest populations" it is just one more match.
for me it just switched visigoth and gaul to where visigoth is #1 and gaul is #2

Viking Icelandic (6.93)
I'm honestly not sure what to make of this site.
This doesn't work for mixed people at all!

There is good information on the Icelandic genomes as well. I've posted this earlier but it is very informative for anyone that gets them in their results.
http://i63.tinypic.com/2sbwpr9.jpg
Most of them do have a Gaelic/Norse mix except a couple that are either full Norse or full Gael. They were called Celtic before but I think calling them Gaelic is more correct. I keep meaning to look at all these ancients in more detail later on as I'm interested in the mtdna and ydna also.
The site should keep getting better if they keep adding ancient genomes like they are doing. There are a couple of great studies coming out next year using a lot of ancient genomes - one on France and one on Ireland. There is a large study coming out on Italy very soon with a lot of ancient genomes as well. These studies tell us far more about what populations we descend from than something like 23&Me.
Not much changed. Still a Roman+Gaul+Scythian.
Seleucid does come up on the map though. Which is a new edition.
Modern populations:
1. Macedonian (3.264)
2. Romanian (4.819)
3. Bulgarian (5.647)
4. Bosnian (7.654)

I found this interesting information about the Icelandic samples.
The paragraph above is specifically about mtdna. The mtdna diversity of Icelanders has decreased so that populations in Scotland, Ireland and Scandinavia have more links to the mtdna of some of the ancient samples than present Icelanders. I read about this sort of thing before and mtdna and ydna are very much subject to drift and can suffer a loss of diversity in populations more so than autosomal dna.Quote:
When interpreting the results obtained from the preceding population genetics analyses, it is important to bear in mind that mtDNA variation is weakly stratified among European populations [1]. For this reason, it is somewhat surprising to observe significant differences between the IEMS and any closely related contemporary populations. However, the population size of Iceland and the other North Atlantic islands has been small during the last 1100 years, compared to the other groups included in these analyses. Accordingly, there is evidence that the gene pools of these small populations have been more heavily affected by genetic drift than those of larger European populations [2],[9]. In the case of highly variable genetic systems, such as the mtDNA control region, this resulted in a faster rate of haplotype extinction and greater fluctuation in the frequencies of surviving haplotypes in the smaller populations [10]. This is the most straightforward explanation of the closer relationship between the IEMS and present-day samples from the source populations of Scotland, Ireland and Scandinavia (and three other regions of Europe) than to the descendants of the IEMS, contemporary Icelanders. Thus, because of faster drift induced evolution in Iceland, it appears that the haplotypes carried by the settlers have been better preserved in the source mtDNA pools of Scotland, Ireland and Scandinavia (and three other regions of Europe) than among contemporary Icelanders, the descendants of the settlers.
Is this a safe site?

Hello, I am new on this forum and I have a passion for ancient civilizations. I am not sure how reliable this website is really. I am from Western France, atlantic coast, and to my knowledge I only have local ancestors. These are my results. I was expecting to see some celts, franks, romans but my results are quite different. I know vikings raiders came a lot in my region (Loire Atlantic), but I am not aware of any seriious settlement. So, having such a high genetic proximity with them is a very big surprise, I understand these samples were mixed with some celts but still.
