It's because harappaworld lacks many referrence populations. Cypriot isn't a good fit for them, and doesn't make sense from a historical perspective either, and Bulgaro-Macedonian would be better than Romanian too.

That being said, using Bulgarian, Chamar and Armenian (the most Mediterranean shifted of the three samples) gives a decent fit in HarappaWorld too:

Pretty sure we've cracked the 'mystery' of their origins.
Cypriots are similar to Pontics but I actually think the West Asian part of the Gypsies may be rather Kurdish/Persian-like than Armenian. Also (Southern) Romanians and Bulgarians are very similar genetically. Anyway, it's already clear that Gypsies can be reasonably modeled as ~⅓ South Indian (Chamars are genetically South Indian even though they live in Northern India), ~⅓ Balkan/Southeastern Euro (probably Albanian/Mainland Greek) and ~⅓ West Asian. I would like to hear Davidski's thoughts on the GQ (Gypsy Question).
Not really, dude. Cypriots are Levant-like while Pontics are close to Caucasians. Just compare the population averages for K13:
Cyprian,5.67,2.81,19.86,20.34,41.08,8.12,0.50,0.07 ,0.23,0.00,0.47,0.30,0.54
Greek_Trabzon,3.03,2.61,15.35,37.05,36.21,3.91,0.9 5,0.22,0.3,0.04,0.3,0,0.3
Quite an evident difference if you asked me. Now let's look at (west) Armenians and Cappadocians which I previously used as one of the population models for Gypsies:
Greek_Cappadocian,6.83,3.81,18.16,27.6,36.59,4.92, 0.94,0.03,0.64,0.03,0.4,0,0
Armenian_West,2.91,1.84,12.8,36.23,36.53,6.22,2.55 ,0.25,0.09,0.09,0.34,0.25,0.27
Armenians are evidently pretty close to Pontics, while Cappadocians are somewhat intermediate.
Kurds and Persians on the other hand have far too little West Med, but also high Red Sea and South Asian of their own. In fact they're the poorest fit of the bunch by far.

Nice, so it seems she's close to those few samples that were used to make that average. Try it with this one too, she has similar results:
