Eurogenes Biogeographic Ancestry Project

Dodecad v 2.1 shows me as 15.36% Eastern European, which is rather low in comparison. It also has no Finnish cluster and Finland isn't considered to belong to Eastern Europe.

I made an experiment by merging the Dodecad v 2.1 results with those of the euro7 calculator of Dodecad, by adjusting the West_European and East_European elements based on the proportions of Northwestern and Northeastern in euro7.

In consequence, the Dodecad and Eurogenes results have become standardized and almost identical.

I made a spreadsheet that works as a RMSD calculator for the European members of the NEU.12 run. It is the same as the others I have made. Use OpenOffice, plug your values in and get a chart at the bottom. Here is a link to the spreadsheet, and below is my chart.

I ran a few tests to check the accuracy of the calculator, and things look fine, but let me know if you experience any problems.

My Caucasus component always seems to be the higher than the average even higher than Assyrians and equal with Armenians. I am positive my maternal side (North Eastern Turks) would score around 60-70% Caucasus.This may indicate Caucasus ancestry.

What is your "Caucasus" component in Dodecad K12b? Assyrians are around ~50%.

But, yeah, NE Turks are very near the area where the various "Caucasus" like components appear to be modal today.

With K12B my Caucasus is same with the Assyrian average, it's 51.2%.

Look at what I got from Larry's program:

Turks: 34.73%
Georgians: 27.56%
Assyrian_D: 24.86% <<<<<<
Sardinian: 5.75%
Mongol:3.86%
Makrani:2.99%
Lezgins: 0.25%

With other runs from Polako and Dienekes my Caucasus was also higher than the average when I was comparing with Turks and with some Assyrians (not average). I noticed that my results overall were closer to Armenians except that I had Turkic input.

Well, that's the one he did for me.
My results vary greatly from run to run.
Maybe the Swedes and Norwegians I'm compared to are short with light brown hair (which is me) instead of the stereotypical tall blonde ones.

Is the South Baltic admixture component in people from Italy, Spain, and Portugal attributed to the Goths, Visigoths, Vandals, and Slavic people who came to those countries? Is the South Baltic component also correlated with the haplogroup R1a?

I'm not sure, but Suebi and Vandals were both East Germanic. Visigoths were not, although they seem to have lived on the shores of the Baltic as well.

This latest run is showing some weird results for people of mixed ancestry. I don't know what reasoning there could be for this, and Polako is probably the only person that could give us an explanation.

All my spreadsheet does is apply the RMSD formula to the data Polako has produced.

Well, it's easy, there's no cluster or ethnicity called "EnglishScottishWelsh DutchFrenchSlovakianGerman".

So the only groups we can match are those that are defined as groups.

It depends. If you're not in the project, then your South Baltic and Finnish scores will be higher. That's because if you're not one of the references yourself, then the algorithm will give you higher portions of components that are similar to your main component.

Also, I use more references from around that area, while Dienekes' has far fewer Russians. Individual variation, or lack of, will affect the outcomes.

In fact I'm not of mixed heritage at all. I'm entirely German on the paper, quite in the same way as an American of "pure" German descent, whose ancestors emigrated to another country.

Actually, let me just expand on this comment, which was a bit half-arsed now that I think about it.

The important thing to understand, is that these tests are blind to ethnic labels, and driven solely by allele frequencies.

That's why a person of mixed German/Italian ancestry is likely to come out "French", and so, and so forth.

Maybe it's from the Normans. I have a lot of Norman English ancestry.
