I found out about The Apricity through the now extinct forum, Skadi.
I think I first found about anthroforums by searching Google Images for photos of Siberian peoples or some other indigenous peoples.
I thought that ABF and AnthroScape were extremely low-quality forums, but that this forum was even worse, so I never wanted to register here. But I first registered here in order to comment to a thread about a book by Karin Mark about the anthropology of Finno-Ugric peoples.
I wanted to know more about the Amerindian population in LatAm. It lead me to this forum. I was familiar with AnthroScape beforehand.
My cousin Universe told me about it.
I don't remember exactly, but I think from some 23andme thread.
I have a degree in European Studies and as such I was looking for a forum that discusses topics related to Europe. This forum is however more focused on anthropology and genetics, of which my previous knowledge was almost non-existent. I ended up staying here as I developed a certain taste and curiosity for genetics and also for the frivolity and lack of rigor with which most of the topics are discussed (of which I also do pleed guilty at times), making the forum quite peculiar and eccentric with its many characters.
I found out about anthroforums, when still a student, I was sitting there studying surgery for my exams and going through the brachycephalic airway obstructive syndrome (BOAS) and i googled out of curiosity if this was a thing with people as well. I found google links to classification threads and discussions on brachycephaly and other crap, as a naturally VERY curious person, i joined to learn more about it. :icon_lol: Then stayed because they had culture and language discussions which interest me anyway, brachycephaly or not
I found it on Google search, no idea what I was searching but something related to Albanians and culture. I was also curious about genetic testing and finding out my heritage. I joined and stayed for the banter and lols. But to be honest, I wish I hadn't done genetic testing in such a toxic environment (it has improved considerably), with such a fragile identity at the time and complicated family history. Other than that it has been interesting knowing you crazy lot! 🤪
