I know almost no Romanian with all 4 grandparents from urban areas, an urba-rural division makes little sense to me in our case. Maybe for some Transylvanian ones.

In R. Moldova it's the same. Those whom I know with grandparents from Chisinau, their grandparents are overwhelmingly ethnic minorities like Jews, Russians, Greeks, Poles. There's even one friend of mine who swears on an Italian ggp :lol:
Moldovan/Romanians and Ukrainians lived primarily in the countryside prior to the Soviet period.

I consider urban the population that currently lives in cities or suburban areas. I'm not that concerned with the place people were born. From this perspective, I'm not so convinced that true rural people are actively looking for genetic testing.

I don't know how things used to be in RM, but in Romania a lot of the rural population that moved to cities used to work in the city before they made the move. In fact, many of them didn't move at all, only their villages became neighborhoods in the larger city. This is a process that continues to this day, and sadly, statistics in Romania do not capture this phenomenon correctly.

Now, this population has been suburban for a long time, it's not really correct to consider it rural. When I talk about villages I think of places that are not within commuting distance to cities.

it's almost certain there is a genetic difference between urban and rural populations in Romania.

cities have above average med, while rural areas have more baltic (except in Baragan).

Not really, especially for places like Ploiesti and Bucuresti which attract people from all over the country. Those from Moldavia pull the average Southern admixture down in cities from Muntenia. There are people in the rural areas around Ploiesti and Bucuresti with around 21% East Med. But villages are far from being homogenous if that's what you are suggesting. Same is true for the other side of Prut.

sure, but suburban villages were/are different from the rest of the villages. suburban village population was already closer to that of cities compared that of the proper rural areas. just saying that, "hey most romanians have village born grandparents" is not illuminating. Question is: what kind of village? proper rural or suburban?

urban and rural populations in Romania look uniformly different, and I do expect that to be reflected in genetics

You won't get access to personal details, but you can grab what I've posted above and in my threads and work on them. There aren't any substantial differences. If anything, if one were to look at villages in Romania, there are more Gypsies there than in the urban areas on average.
