Yesterday I finally watched the infamous Howard the Duck. This scene was soooo awkward and inappropriate, I nearly got traumatised by it. I was like - please no, it can't be happening. At least it did not go all the way, phew. I enjoyed the movie but it was indeed a bad movie still with the latter half of it being a hot mess ever since the transformation of Dr Jenning. There was a lot of hilarious moments in it and I found Howard the Duck very likable as a character.

I agree - Warsaw 44 / Miasto 44 was pretty bad albeit there was a lot of worse similar movies in Poland. The most pathetic element was its ... sound. I could not understand right away like 1/3 of dialogues and I am Polish. Actually it's a common feature in our cinematography, badly botched sound / sound design. And I am not alone who complains on that in Poland. It seems to be given little effort.
Couldn't understand a word! But ofc I don't speak Polish. To me biggest sin of this film was that it kind of romanticized such horrific event - I almost got impression that war is awesome and cool.
This highly stylish approach was innapropriate for such a grim event IMO - felt like I was watching a patriotic music video set in WW2 Poland.
Actors were really too good looking to be convincing too - I get it one or two might be lookers but when entire cast looks like models it's not realistic.
But I tought concept and way film was made was very interesting though - one can see director is obviously talented. And I even found a sex scene in ruins with a modern dubstep soundtrack surreal and highly artistic. I really got idea of their world crushing down.
I also can see why were Polish veterans offended by this film. It's bit too edgy for such a serious topic.
I was not a fan of the styling too as in its colour scheme - it looked fake. Apparently there is a lot of Polish people who watch this with Polish subtitles once they realise they can't make out the words being spoken, lol. They also mutter a lot to make matters worse. And btw. Warsaw Uprising is romanticised a lot in Poland, it is kinda considered taboo for some to speak out loud that it was essentially hopeless and pointless and only caused more people to die. It was doomed from the start.
As for the other choices made by the director - I agree with you on those.
