No it wasn't. The name "Moldova" also had a mostly internal use. Ottomans, who at that time were the suzerains of Moldova, used to call it Boğdan, or even funnier Kuçuk-Eflak, meaning Little Wallachia. Poles, who were also sometimes suzerains in Moldova would call Moldovan rulers Wallachian princes. Polish medieval chronicler Leonard Goreck refers to Ioan Voda cel Cumplit, a Moldovan ruler, "Palatini Valachiae" meaning Wallachian Prince, and would often call various Moldovan personalities as Wallachian, which they obviously were.

Listen, I have nothing against RM being a separate country, as long as it's not a Russian domain and Moldovan history is told without distorting the history of Romania and Romanians.
