I actually think "financial preparedness" is overrated - not commenting on your situation specifically, just in general. There's more to be said for a loving family and a walk in the park than music lessons and a costly college degree. I think we've lost our ability to smell the roses in this rat race to reach what we think is the bare minimum necessary to rear children properly.

Neoliberalism is a modern concept from the 1930s and changed in the 1970/80s. Ask older Americans what they think happen with their economy, outsourcing, losses of jobs, the problems in the Rust Belt.

Its also related to Mont Pelerin Society, with supporters like Popper (someone who your pal Soros copied).

I'm basing this on a very basic understanding of economics, but I blame the entrance of women en masse into the workforce. Just think: The labor market basically doubled. Why should we expect average wages not to have dropped?

Neither extreme of 0 kids or 10 kids is logical imo.
You need a balance to feed them, not have them starving, raise them properly but also be at least in replacement level on national level (this way your population is fine, no need for immigration).

US was having a higher fertility rate around the time of its "Golden Age of Capitalism" / post–World War II economic expansion.
Which is a bit different from poor African countries having 6 kids.

I know in US education costs and debt for students is a problem. And people are still pushing for the highest possible education (which is good and bad depending on case).
Delaying kids/marriages is a problem. There are plentying of studies showing the effects on the child and parents. Not making this up.

This is all about women refusing to have sex in order to get pregnant.
