I switched to FreeBSD bitches :
As an operating system GNU/Linux has become a mess because of the fragmented nature of the project, the bloatware in the kernel, and because of the jerking around by commercial interests.
There exist several technical reasons for when a migration from GNU/Linux to BSD might make sense, but this article isn't about that, it's an opinionated rant, more than anything else.

FreeBSD can look like Linux and once setup the end user most likely won't notice a difference but my setup is more minimal and hackerish :
It can look more like this :

To maintain authenticity, you need to buy a 15-inch CRT monitor, without this the experience will not be complete.
320x200 and 640x480 resolutions were created specifically for such screens. Well, and 2 farting speakers on the sides of the monitor:thumb001:.

It's very interesting, of course, but I've been using Slackware for a long time and I'm tired of it. Still, a compromise is needed between privacy and convenience. BSD is almost the same as Slackware in terms of maintenance, with noticeably less quantity of compatible software and worse compatibility with the new hardware. It would be interesting to try this in a virtual machine, but there is no time for that right now.
Anyway, the main hole in privacy is the browser, and it is the same in any system. This is not to mention the proprietary blobs in the hardware.
