And "Drenica" means place where Cornus mas grows.
What term "Kosovo" means in Albanian language?
In December 1274,a treaty was signed between the Anjou governor Norjan de Toucy and Albanian nobles, recognising Charles the first as their overlord. One of the signitaries was "Sevasto Tanussio Berissa" In the Dečani chrysobulls 1330,members of this tribe as mentioned as "Sokalnik". A member of the Berisha tribe was appointed as a bishop in the city of Ragusa from the Archbishop of Ragusa in 1342-44. Throughout Kosovo numerous microtoponyms can be found during the 14th century such as:Berishin Dol,Berishtar,Berishofc,Berishtani,Berishane and Berishiç. In 1348, Emperor Stefan Dušan mentions "Berisha's Field" as being near Mushtisht in Kosovo.

Linguist Radoslav Katičić proposed that the placename Niš is a Slavic and proto-Albanian toponym that evolved from the Ancient Greek Ναισσός.According to Katičić, only mediation through the Illyrian that is proto-Albanian language could give the final phonetic form as Niš reflecting the sound changes that Albanian underwent and was later borrowed into Slavic, indicating that at the time of arrival by Slavs (7th century) a historic (proto)-Albanian presence existed in the area.
