It would be interesting though: to see what would happen if a country like Argentina went rolling along again and also redeveloped its rail network. They could, theoretically, become a big player. Like European countries. They have the topography and, in the center, the population density for a very interesting network.
Yea, the Panama Canal has kinda screwed up their logistics and transportation network since everyone just uses it instead of going all the way around. If they had major rail system they could boost their economy alongside good policies and deals. Argentina's economy is really wonky right now, they need to rework their tax system.
