I can't even tell if this is an agenda that is being pushed or if people actually believe AI is racist. Most convolutional neural network designs for facial recognition were designed by the Chinese. At the moment, the entire field is dominated by Indians, and they're just dumping data into these models. That's why they suck. There is no way that a good facial recognition tool shouldn't be able to tell the difference between some famous black athlete and a local Jamal. The reason it can't is because they built a bad AI.
It's the difficulties with this that have led the cries to end the MET Police's automatic facial recognition systems in England. When it's given the face of a black criminal to find, broad swathes of the black population would be identified as potentially being that person.
AI will eventually either be crippled to the point of uselessness or outright banned. You can't feed raw information into a purely objective system and expect it to not spot the pattern and become "racist."
Google literally had to scrap parts of its facial recognition AI because it kept mistaking blacks for gorillas.
