Question Is it true that white americans are more irish-germans than english?

Wiki says white americans are more german and irish rather than english:

    German 17%

    Irish 11%

    And English only 7-8%!

German Americans are citizens of the United States who were either born in Germany or are of German ancestry. They comprise about 50 million people, making them the largest ancestry group ahead of Irish Americans, African Americans and English Americans.

Blue states are german majority states...

No. Most Americans (at least in my area) are of predominantly British stock.

They just tend to refer to themselves as "American" rather than "British-American" or "English-American" on surveys, as they have been here for so long. Either that, or they choose a more recent, more "interesting" ethnicity to identify with.

For example: I have a friend who refers to himself as "really Polish" and Polish-American, despite the fact that every last name in his family (that I have heard) is English or Welsh. He might have one Polish grandparent, or a part-Polish ancestor, but he is likely of colonial stock. He gives me shit for my large amount of British ancestry, because I actually acknowledge mine.

English, German, Irish in that order. All though most people seem to have at least distant Scots-Irish/Scottish.

Yep. But still 50 million germans in US is just too much I think.

There are quite a few Americans who are of German descent, however; 50 million could be accurate. In the Midwest (where I live, albeit on the border), there are a lot of people whose families are of near-fully German descent, or mixed German + Irish.
I was just saying that there are a lot of Americans who don't claim British ancestry, even though it is their primary ancestry (in terms of percentage), which would explain the underrepresentation of English-Americans.

I'm around 1/4th German, going by the family tree. The other 3/4ths is a combination of English, Scots-Irish, and Welsh.
Most people I know are some decent percentage German. It's just not their predominant ancestry, though they often claim it is.
