It's not a huge accomplishment, considering it came two centuries after the cathedral of Amiens. Still a nice cathedral (not my type though, I really don't like Rhine Gothic).

I had to write slavery, because our slovak friend often confuse the term of thralls & slaves with the term of Serfdom.
The serfdom in medieval France was the most brutal in Europe. The French nobles had right to sentence to death their Serfs.

I've only been to Berlin but I wouldn't say the architecture is poor. It's just old and cheaply built more than anything. A lot of it is also second to things like transit. I don't know about other cities but Berlin has public transit absolutely everywhere at excessive levels compared to other cities so the architecture and aesthetics will suffer for that.

Well, they architecture of Berlin would naturally be pretty grey and drab, considering it was destroyed, occupied, and rebuilt by Soviets, and we all know how lovely Eastern Bloc architecture is....

Dont forget that most of Budapest was destroyed during WW2, and that Battle of Budapest was much longer Berlin, causing even more destruction.

I like Potsdamer Platz area - it looked very reasonable when I was there.
