can someone explain me why north italians and south italians disregard each others, also what is considered north and what is considered south? is it cultural or based on wealth as the north is richer.

North and Central Italians say that Africa begins in Naples. I can't imagine why anyone in Southern Italy would be offended by that...

Funny thing is that Southern Italians barely have any African influence at all genetically. They are mostly Mediterranean and West Asian plus minor amounts of North European admixture.

It's basically that northerners consider southerners lazy and corrupt, and southerners consider northerners snobby, "northern" acting and cold, and boring.

If you are referring to me it is funny how you call me American lol...Anyways I know it is not only about genetics...Most of it is cultural. I was just making a point about how many Northern Italians say ''Africa starts below Rome'' or whatever. There is not much to back that up.

Simple. Northern Italy is the child of the Modernist Savoy Monarchy of Piamont.
Rome and its region were traditional the Papal States, independent and with an autarchic industry.
Southern Italy is the child of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, for all matters understood as the autonomous italic territories that were once part of the Aragonese/Spanish crown.

The union of two divergent countries was brought for by XIX Century poets and romanticists. They took Machiavelli's old idea of unifying Italy so that foreign princes wouldn't be able to intervene in it, and decided to create a country no matter the price.
