Even in food we are so different, for example in south people use oil while here we use butter.

Funny thing is that even in this forum americans or other foreigners insult us and pretend to tech us the history of our same country.

Because it were Sicilians who settled in the US, the most influential country in the world. If the US thinks all Italians are Sicilians, the world will think that as a consequence of their influence in media. If Venetians or Lombards had settled there, I can guarantee that everybody would think all Italians are Venetian or Lombard...

This is very indicative in South America where italians are stereotyped to be brown or light haired and with light eyes, like in brazilian and rioplatense telenovelas.
Not surprisingly, in Brazil most italians were venetian, lombards and piemontese...

Indeed, and even the South Italians who arrived in Brazil ended up mixing with North Italians, because they came in smaller numbers and usually single, while Northerners arrived in big numbers and usually in families. Even though Italian immigrants had a tendency of marrying people from their own regions, when it was not possible they married Italians from other regions. I know very few pure South Italian families, but a lot of North Italian ones.

My problem is that these aren't my people, they've different culture and tradition. ''Italy'' isn't a nation, it's a geographical expression.
    It's so hard to understand?

Because most (but not all!) Italian Americans came from Sicily. And the ones from Sicily probably had a stronger sense of tradition, community, were less prone at adapting to the American life style... While other Italians faded and blended in the foreign land.

Peyrol you can't really blame other people when even you guys can't agree with each other. You have some like that guy from that other Anthro board (forgot what his name is but I think he's the admin) who says there is virtually no difference among Italians then you have you guys who say we're all different! Then you have the guys who want to seperate themselves from certain regions altogether.

You guys have to come up with a consensus first before you "educate" everyone else But I guess that is the downside of diversity, noone will agree on just one ideal.
Send me dms asking me to classify you, i'll have Barbarianna of Barbaria here put a few holes in you. Then I'll take this guitar and smash it over your head.
