Yes, that landscape was unusual, like steps. I've never seen anything like that here - are they man made?

This might be somewhat similar, those these are old houses etc.

How far back do these Portugese field systems date, I wonder?

Certainly since the Chalcolithic at least i guess... besides being common in many parts of the world the closest example we have to Europe is in Turkey(Anatolia).
Terraced agriculture is also linked to the hillfort culture. These people lived on the top of the hills and so they had to terrace the land in order to practise agriculture.

The first views with the palm trees and boats is called Plockton. Plockton enjoys very mild weather, despite it's very northern location, hence the palm trees etc. It really would an ideal place for anyone thinking of having a honeymoon in Scotland or the UK.

The first one in your last post is also Plockton. I don't know about the other pictures though.
