I myself differ from other Appalachians as my kingroup is patrineal specific. Most Appalachians have a less strict case of patrilineal obligation in regards to the structure of the kingroup/clan heirarchy, and unlike my kingroup most Appalachians acknowledge collateral kin as part of the kingroup/clan. This is not to say other Appalachians do not have patrilineal tendencies, it's just that most include collateral kin as part of the group while otherwise remaining patrilineal as inheritance and identity are paternally derived, they are literally just less strict.
I can more than likely attribute my kingroup's emphasis on patrilineal dominance to the economic status of the family, the patrilineal dominance was necessary to pass on the inheritance, while many other Appalachians were less wealthy so to speak and were more focused on nuclear issues and a wider clan spectrum that fits with focus on collateral kin.
Outside of this patrilineal fetish, my kingroup is on par with other Appalachians.
So, how do you differ from your group?
