It just implies to me that Maltese are recently from Sicily such that it was during the Middle Ages.

Well, you need to cool off, and descend from the clouds. See you were as cool as Sri Lankans and Thais when you were Buddhists, then Abrahamic faiths have been forced on you, and fucked up all your coolness.

Nope Christianity wasn't forced on us we took it up willingly, since we deemed them Christians a powerful force in the war against Islam since at that time the Spaniards and Latinos who had arrived from Mexico had freshly kicked out the Muslims during the Reconquista.

And the Buddhists, despite the resistance were defeated during the Islamic sacking of Buddhist India under the Delhi Sultanate. In which case, only Sri Lanka remained Buddhist while the rest of India became Muslim.

Don't get me wrong, we were very faithful Buddhists then, but the Islamic assault was overwhelming. The Muslims controlled the land silk route and now they also sought to control the sea, spice-route.

We'll there was a Buddhist China to ask help from but they let a Muslim "Zeng Ho" keep the reigns and even supported the newly installed Sultan of Malacca, Iskandar Shah.

Much to our chagrin. If we can't even depend on fellow Buddhists for help against the Muslims who destroyed Nalanda and sacked the kingdom of Pala. We better seek allies from elsewhere, and these Iberians (And Latinos) who had expelled the Muslims in the reconquista looked more trustworthy. Than our "fellow Buddhist nation" China. But Buddhism wasn't that much a holy thing for them anyway since they are more Taoist and Confucian, than Buddhist.

You're right. Uhm let me ask. What impact did the Knights of Malta have in the formation of Malta?

Surely they also had an impact there and are all or most of the Knights of Malta also Sicilian in origin?

No worries I prefer that people be earnest and honest about their sentiments to each other rather than being cool. Yes, being cool is good but being true is better.

And hehehe sorry for fucking up your good perception of Buddhist, most Buddhists are good and Buddha's philosophy is also good, it just so happens that we got hard-pressed by the politics of the era. I suggest you continue on studying Buddhism and be cool about it because Buddhism is a great world-view.

Anyway, back to topic. As I said before, echoing the words of my erstwhile kuya, Zhaoyun, Malta "punches above it's weight class".

It seems also that most Maltese have one of maybe 10 Sicilian surnames, such that the population probably started out small of only several families and expanded.
