In terms of skintone, Northern Mongoloids are lighter than 60% of Europeans.
However the reason why the term 'white' belongs to Caucasoids are the Saxon people having pinkish, almost transparent skin tone:
Dutch people + Englishmen.
e.g. Dutch soccer player Dirk Kuyt.
So it's not only about Spaniards or even other Med Euros.
If Saxon people mix out and are extinct, then the Japs can claim the term 'white' for themselves, the Mongoloids.
And the Caucasoids would be like North Indians (Caucasoid people too).

Spaniards are between white and brown, but mostly white, they belong to the mediterrranean race.
Jappanese are yellow, they aren't even caucasoid/west eurasian but mongoloid, hence spaniards are whiter.
