They used to follow certain practices that are no longer employed....among them was giving enemas during labor to prevent defecation during delivery. At least that was the norm when my daughter was born in the mid-late 80s. Now they just let the poor mom poop away. I dunno....not sure I'd want that to happen to me lol. Though I had my son some 20 yrs later, he was born via csection so I never had to experience pooping on the table in front of everyone lol.

Same for my dad's family. They followed the California trail back in the 1840s and settled in the San Joaquin Valley....Modesto specifically. His were one of the founding families in that region. They were all ranchers mostly...few bankers thrown in. My dad bailed out, attended Stanford University as an Electrical Engineering major and later went on to do that along with computer engineering.....which was much later followed by sales of all things.

Farmers (fathers and mothers), tailors (fathers), merchants (fathers), military (fathers and mothers), investors (fathers), engineers (fathers), doctors (fathers), judges (mothers)
To sum it up, my dads family had a farm in Wisconsin and agriculture in Romania as well, my mothers family also has a history of farming in Wisconsin.
Fathers family, some became tailors in the United States
Fathers father was a merchant, ran a lot of businesses and was a HAM Radio operator, some family were also involved in the diamond trade
Both mother and fathers family have a history of military duty to modern day, i've had 2 cousins serve in the military, fathers family apparently shows a history of military duty in Romania as well as in Vietnam
Fathers family also were investors for companies
Fathers family were involved in engineering, my dad worked as a network engineer, stepdad was avionics specialist, my grandpa designed ham radio communications from what I remember and did so as a hobby.
My father was a programmer and designed software for companies and worked on mainframes.
Fathers family we had a doctor in our family from Romania
Mothers family descended from Judges apparently from Hamburg, Germany.
I think some of our family fit the stereotypes when they came to this country, mothers family retained farming and working the land in Wisconsin with their German roots, grandpa is still a avid hunter, fisher and did a lot of manual work. He was a hard worker. My dads family while doing some things outside the normal stereotype of a Jewish family was primarily involved in businesses, investing, and making it big when they came to the US, the other stuff was more a hobby.

My father worked for Aerojet and worked on Project Gemini. He got my two brothers jobs at Aerojet, and on of them got blown up out on the test field. He survived but has had years of surgery. My father has blamed himself for the accident and it's been very tough on him. Thankfully he did not die.
