    Default Greek Phenotypes by Region.

This is my attempt to do one for Greece like I did for Sicily and southern Italy. Please make suggestions and corrections as I go.

    Default Epirus

Epirus borders Albania, and is the westernmost part of mainland Greece. These are the key types:

Dinaricized Pontids -- long-faced, straight nosed types common to the western Balkans; some show Alpine influence.

Alpine-Cromagnid intermediates -- some are almost Gorids.

North Pontid-East Nordid influenced types -- "Aryan" look from the Russian steppes.

East Mediterraneans -- a pan-Greek type, also resembling southern Italians. Some show Dinarid influence.

    Default Macedonia, Thrace, and Thessaly.

Macedonia, Thrace, and Thessaly more or less have the same phenotypes according to most of the Greek posters here and as such I am doing them as one.

Alpinized Pontids -- types that can also be found in Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Romania.

(Dinaricized) Pontids -- many come quite close to what could be called East Med.

Alpine-Cromagnid intermediates -- again, a type that can resemble Gorids.

"Slavicized" types -- including East Nordid, North Pontid, and Baltid. Represent, together, a noticeable minority of northern Greeks, although less than what you'd find in Balkan Slavic countries.

Default Central Greece, West Greece, and the Peloponnese

This is southern mainland Greece -- West Greece, Central Greece, and the Peloponnese. This is where Greeks start to get more "Mediterranean" and resemble islanders.

Alpinized East Mediterraneans -- "Sicilian" looking.

Dinaricized East Mediterraneans -- Sicilian looking type #2.

Atlanto-Pontids -- types that can pass further north, almost resembling Atlantids in Western Europe but with an "Eastern" character.

    Pontids -- pan-Balkan types.

    Default Crete

Crete is rather distinct so I will do it as one.

East Mediterranids -- with both Dinaric and Alpine influence. Types like this pass everywhere from southern Italy to the Levant.

Atlanto-Mediterranean -- rather Western looking, quite close to some Iberians.

"Aryan" influenced types, mostly present in western Crete -- resembling, to some degree, people further north in Eastern Europe. This might represent the Dorian invasion of the island.

    Default Aegean Islands

This includes the islands in the Aegean -- Rhodes, Chios, Kalymnos etc.

East Mediterraneans -- both Dinaricized and Alpinized. Again a similar type from southern Italy to the Levant.

Alpines -- can pass in multiple locations in Europe.

"Aryan" phenotypes -- representing the Indo-European migration that brought the Greek language to the islands. Resembles Slavic types but predates them.

    Pontids

Armenoid influenced Mediterranids -- a similar type can also be found in Sicily, but this variation is distinctly Greek.

    Default Cypriots

Cypriots are technically Greeks, so I'll represent them too, even though genetically they are closer to the Levant. There are phenotypes resembling mainland Greeks, but the Aryan element is absent altogether.

Armenoid-East Med intermediates -- also showing Alpine and Pontid influences.

Alpinized East Mediterraneans -- a pan East Med look from southern Italy to the Levant.

"Orientalid" types -- clearly resembling people of the mainland Near East.

    Pontids

    Default Ionian islands.

The Ionian islands, are located off the coast of Epirus and western Greece.

Dinaricized Pontids -- approaching East Med. This is the predominant type.

"Aryan" phenotypes resembling those from Epirus -- Nordo-Pontid. Could pass as Ukrainian, Russian, or even Belarusian.

Alpines -- resembles the Epirotic Alpine type.
