Genealogy and genetics.

Of course, if you go back far enough, there were plenty of non-Jews, but that was before the ethnogenesis of the various Jewish subcultural groups.

If you're talking about 3000 ago, I think it is very unlikely for any people group not to breed with other different groups or tribes for such a long period of time. If you meant in the last few hundred years it is more likely because of the jewish Identity that has been created in the middle ages but still I'm sure some jews have been breeding with non jews. Because if we were indeed pure jews, we would have a middle eastern look, which I don't have by no means (I look slavic and also sensitive to hot weather while enjoying cold weather).

When I got it, in 2013, it gave me 2% Eastern European, which lasted until last year, when it became about 1% Scandinavian.

Apart from that, it gives me less MENA than I 'should' get. Ie, I am a little under 1/16 Iraqi Jewish and a little under 1/8 Sephardi. That 'should' give me around 9-10% MENA. But, I get a little over half that. My mum also gets half what she 'should' get which suggests somewhere between my mum and her Iraqi great-grandmother (so, either my mum or her mum) some inherited less Iraqi than they 'should' have. But that's random inheritance models for you.
