I didn't get this at all when I was a kid, but it make me break down sobbing when I re-watched it at 20. Molly is a "wretched woman" who realizes she is able to see the Unicorn, even after all her sins. The unicorn is said to only appear to virgins, or the purest of heart, and Molly realizes now that she is forgiven and that her circumstances have not truly tainted her soul. She's understandably very upset that this beacon of purity did not rescue her "when she was new; an innocent young maiden".

It's so bitterly heartbreaking to wonder why you were never rescued from the things that destroyed your innocence. This scene reminds me that, though it can be hard to convince myself, true purity comes from the inside and is immutable.
