Why do so many Westerners have a problem with animal sacrifice? Every ancient culture practiced it, and we kill millions upon millions of animals a day. It especially drives me psycho when modern Hindus, who have been influenced by ascetic religions like Jainism, claim that sacrifice is contrary to Hinduism.



In the "ROMA" realm in Second Life, the "Emperor" decreed that animations of animal sacrifice weren't permitted. Seriously!? ANIMATIONS! Don't you realize sacrifice was a HUGE segment of the ancient Roman economy!?

Just because it's been everywhere doesn't mean I have to like it, now does it?

Maybe, but watching the video, it seemed so inhumane. Too bad their spirits don't demand acts of kindness instead of death and torture.

it just depends on your perspective..........in their eyes its not being cruel. They are giving something sacred, life itself, out of reverence.

no matter what you think of the act itself the intentions behind it are not out of cruelty.

and besides, they see their spirits as having human-like qualities...they want drink and food

what they do is no different than what Burger King does, except they have an actual purpose to it.

Though one could argue quite easily the actual religion at its base was a great influence in Haiti's liberation.

Duvalier and much of the Upper Class merely manipulate the faith for the masses, they do not practice it and if anything disdain it.

I know most cultures practice animal sacrifice, but I disagree with the practice. Our meat animals should be raised with humane practices and given a dignified death. That is how we honor their place in the food chain.
