Very interesting. Love to know more. Would be pretty weird for that guy.
    Spoiler!

I understand your number logic presented but I was wondering is 12% difference (?) figure you wrote about official or is it something you came up with because how can Neanderthal have 12% Neanderthal genes! Since it still says there that Eurasians have 1+% Neanderthal admix on average I just don't see how logic you presented fits.

This is what was written on one site:

The researchers found that today, humans in east Asia have, on average, more of their genome originating from Neanderthals than Europeans, and modern-day Africans have little or none. Those findings confirmed previous studies. But then, the scientists took their analysis a step further and examined which genes most often have Neanderthal ancestry in present-day people. They found that some genes had variants of Neanderthal origin in more than sixty percent of Europeans or Asians, while other genes were never of Neanderthal heritage.
It could be a totally different context

But then again you can read something like this. I think this was explained in the fifth paragraph in opening post (starting with "finally"), but this is a different study.

I think what they are saying there is that 20% of the total neanderthal versions survive, which means the numbers jibe with what I came up with - 2-3% of your DNA having neanderthal type genes = around 20% of your ancestry coming from neanderthals.

That make any sense? The 12% is an estimate based on the numbers I know. What I heard previously was "about 10%", but it has to be higher than that or else the ancestry numbers for people with 8% would be 80%.

Umm, I do believe you read it wrong. Look at the chart image near the top of that article. There is a column for "Neanderthal ancestry on autosomes (%)"...all the numbers hover around 1%. The part with the 62% and 64% coming from Neanderthals I think is just talking about a specific gene or small set of genes...62% of that gene came from Neanderthals.

Sorry I jumped the gun, guys. Looks like they were saying something else and said it in an awkward manner. To get the whole ancestry I guess you'd have to add up all the columns in the data set and I don't have the data.
