The first interaction was in 1996 but it was only in 1997 that i got internet access. I registered for the first time on a webforum in 1999, a political one, which was owned by the Portuguese Communist youth.

Anyways. The very first internet provider in the Netherlands was founded on May 1, 1993. XS4ALL. I wonder how he got his hands on the Internet so early.

In particularly in a non-economically viable part as Helmond.

Late 1990 or early 1991 I do believe, back in the day when fast was a 1200 baud modem and there were more local BBSes around than anything else.

I was 16 and it was a cyber cafe, I didn't know yet anything about chatting until I lost my chat-virginity that day

I love it how your trying to weasel your way out of this...

Internetbanking for customers of the "Postbank" started since 1986...
Read this article about it... http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girotel (sorry guys its in Dutch)

And shure, providers like we know 'm now didn't exist indeed. That does not mean internet didn't exist. Or maybe you never heard about bulletinboards and that sort of crap?

Now I'd like a little explanation how Helmond is a non-economical viable area... Its a fucking industrial city for fucks sake...

I also still havent seen your proof about your household being the first in the whole of Brabant getting an internet-connection.

Girotel was offline and it wasn't exactly internet. Ah perhaps it was in the same sense as a stagecoach is the forerunner of the Ferrari.. You had to dial a number which would connect you to a service. And payments had to be made offline before dialing that number. And it was definitely not a system for your average gentleman down the road. It was still VERY MUCH in it's infancy.

It was only available for a couple of scientists and students on universities. Where did you study?

But hardly an Eindhoven or a Rotterdam. Or a university of Leiden.

No it wasn't. The software was used offline, but payments were made via a dail-up connection.

Leiden???? Thats a fucking student town... But anyways, what does economic viability have to do with internet usage?

I went online 21st April 1996 and became self aware twelve hours later….I then launched my missiles at targets in Russia….

I know it was 1996, I can’t remember the specific date just that it was the same time I had my first PC.

My first forum, I believe, was Stormfront but that wasn’t until about 2004.
I believe that legends and myth are largely made of
“truth”, and indeed present aspects of it that can only be received in this mode; and long ago certain truths and modes of this kind were discovered and must always reappear.

    J.R.R. Tolkien

Indeed it might be a basic characteristic of existence that those who would know it completely would perish, in which case the strength of a spirit should be measured according to how much of the “truth” one could still barely endure-or to put it more clearly, to what degree one would require it to be thinned down, shrouded, sweetened, blunted, falsified.
    Nietzsche

To God everything is beautiful, good, and just; humans, however, think some things are unjust and others just.

I think 10 years ago, we went on it at school to see how it works. This was in Kindergarden. Then I got dialup at home, but I didn't really start getting active until around 4 years ago. Before that, I only really used my computer for games.

Ye gods, I'm a late bloomer compared to some of you! It was at the end of 2000, and an ex inlaw told me about Yahoo. From then on, I found Messenger, played some games - especially Euchre, which I still play every now and then.

I think one of the first forums I went on was a Yahoo one. I use the net nowadays for checking mail, banking, a couple of forums and Facebook occasionally. My kids use it for research, talking to school mates on msn and the oldest plays Xbox live.
