After the expulsion of the Turks in 1697. until 1881.godine area along the Sava river belonged to the - Vojna krajina - Slavonian border, under the direction of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.

Military Border was the border area of the Habsburg Monarchy, and later the Austro-Hungarian Empire, with special military decoration in relation to the interior of the country. It is a form of security of the state border, in which the army and the population were very attached to territory and have benefits as compensation for frontier service.

Military Border began during the regin of king Sigismund at 1433. Croatian gentlemen, who had their farms and towns on the border of Bosnia pashaluk, have been forced to come up with the king to care for the maintenance of the army in these places. Cities and their districts creates the Military Frontier, for which the defense took care the Hapsburgs, and Carniola, Carinthia and Styria, and was commanded by one of her chief captain. Krajina army was composed of pedestrians (haramies), cavalry (Hussars) and gunners. The majority of leaders were Croats and immigrants (uskoci, prebjezi).

Morlachs (Moro-Vlachs) were old inhabitants of Croatia. Their name means black vlachs and they got it due to their clothes. They originated from Roman colonists and native inhabitants like Illyrians and Thracians. Vlachs is a generic name for all romance speaking people.
