Ceuta was conquered by the Portuguese. Portugal lost it to Spain during the Restoration War.

The flag of Ceuta still bears the Portuguese Kingdom coat-of-arms.

They are European cities since XVth century. Spain and Portugal had plans to continue the Reconquista in north Africa to expel the Muslims from those former Christian lands. Too bad that they didn't continue in their plan. Having the control of the southern coast, the mediterranean sea today would have been a safer place, without the so called migrants wandering everywhere like locusts.

I dont know why a lot people gets bothered by that. Americas become European after Christopher Columbus set a foot on Hispaniola since then the americas is not the same prior to the European conquest.
