You should live in Moscow, that's what's wrong.
I don't think Japan would suddenly switch sides and become best friends with Russia whilst Russia is allied with China and the US is seen as protection against China.
And they'd sacrifice themselves to do that, why?
Like you used to, former Germanophile?
They're at a similar level. China just taking out 18% of its exports and 5% of it's GDP from exports to the US wouldn't exactly be a good thing and it'd likely bring about a global economic crisis that would drag even China into recession.
You can't just cut off the world's largest economies and expect to continue as usual. Russia is different, it's not the US, EU or China.

Your point is valid, if they see themselves as Ukrainians it's all fine. But quite a number of them identify themselves as ethnic Russians living in Ukraine. Also those that actually identify themselves as Ukrainians are quite a diverse bunch with very different visions on what Ukrainian really is and what Ukraine should be. And diversity is so extreme in some cases that these people are ready to kill each other. The independent Ukraine as we know it today have never existed before so ethnogenesis of Ukrainians is at the very early stage now. Because of that things can get very violent.

Dont forget that the scenario with "democratic revolution" was worked out for Russia. Ask yourself now, why it didn't go there but in Ukraine well.
