Imo, Capitalism and Communism, far from being polar opposites with radically different viewpoints of the world, were two sides of the same coin - both believe(d) that humans are little more than economic machines, that money and material goods are ends in themselves; also, most crucially, they both believe(d) in exploiting nature (for human benefit) rather than protecting and conserving it. The only real argument between them - important though that may be to an extent - is/was regarding distribution and ownership. They do/did NOT, however, differ substantially in terms of what they think societies and individuals should mainly focus on, nor do/did they substantially differ in terms of how they believe humans ought to respect and interact with the natural world. What do you think?
