Excellent talk by 4 star US General about Leadership about the failure of American leadership and why this is happening.

Western society is failing to produce real leaders and men of character. All it's producing is little boys and catering to their desires.

When I was in high school they kept trying to encourage leadership and confidence. My school even had a military cadets programme. Maybe it's just America.

Because society puts more value in currency rather than integrity.

Leaders have to think for themselves, there is nobody higher for you to listen to. Western society does not breed thinking for yourself, it breeds obedience.

Yes, my high school was like that too, did you feel that it was working?

My school also did it

Maybe it's an Australian thing.

And as for whether it works, I think the desire to lead comes from your personality, not from programs.

Well, i believe that anyone has the ability to lead, what helps is when you have a culture that admires leadership. That's where the programs come in. People should have an incentive to lead.

Yeah, I guess but, for e.g. in here they make volunteering a minimum of 40 hours in every high-school term mandatory and I don't get how this is volunteering when it's required for one to graduate high school. It does teach you many leadership skills though.
