Spanking your child
Are you for or against 'spanking' your child? Do you think that it should still be used as a punishment or not? Is it acceptable?

My father hit me a lot
The pain was even more mental than physical because most of the time i really didnt deserve it and it was just too much violence for a child ...he is just an asshole
I have promised myself to make everything different than what he did when i have a family one day

I am completely against any form of physical violence against children.Children are not mature and their brains are not fully developed.Fear,intimidation & physical violence will scar them for life.It will emotionally damage them and they would struggle with day to day life in their adulthood.

I did not get spanked as a child. I did get my mouth washed out with soap a few times though.
A friend of mine spanks her kids when they do something that is dangerous, for example her son once when he was 3 years old ran out of the house while she was in the bathroom and ran into the road. As punishment she spanked him, so that he'd remember how much trouble he'd be in for going into the road without an adult.
Spanking out of anger is not a good idea. That's for sure. I don't spank my kids, I don't need to. There are many other ways and effective ways to punish little ones.

Kind of skeptic about it. Spanking when words don't work (aka children sulking or doing something really dangerous) might serve as a reminder, but I would put more effort in explaining why the action was wrong, and teach him how it will affect him/others. I agree with Aurora, parents who spank their children just cause they're angry/nervous or whatever is sick. My Grandpa did the first and my mum the latter, I have more fond memories of my Grandpa, I miss him and I appreciate him raising me with some principles.

One cousin is always calm..I've never seen his parents spank him..
other one is very naughty... and won't give respect sometimes..
Once in a while, his parents spank him..He'll cry but take it as lesson most of the time..
They'll let him weep for a while, after that his mom/dad will pacify him with something he wants or by some kind words.
I've never seen him emotionally disturbed cuz of that..

My parents only beat me over grades. I think I'm generally against it though...kids shouldn't fear their parents they should respect them.
