Never been spanked, never will spank. Exhibiting physical superiority to a child is cowardly. Maltafalzone is right, explain why they're wrong and engage their brain; threat them like humans, not dogs. You never hear of children with less authoritarian parents developing social or mental problems.

In class once, we discussed this, and a friend came out in support of it, saying their parents had spanked them, and she was no worse for it I didn't remind them at the time, but they constantly complained of how poor their relationship was with their parents (the only relative they liked was their brother), how horrible her childhood had been, etc; they was also constantly in and out of relationships they hoped would work but never did, on medication, and obese. They had psychological issues too, yet they thought being hit had been good for them.

My parents only beat me over grades. I think I'm generally against it though...kids shouldn't fear their parents they should respect them.

Children should learn violence (spanking) from their biological fathers. It is the duty and moral obligation of traditional, conservative fathers to dole out punishment, and spare wives/women from this hard task. A woman who doles-out physical punishment severely perverts her children. Because then children associate abuse/violence with women, instead of men.

Criminals who attack/abuse/rape/murder women are from this background; they do not have traditional and conservative fathers.

Criminals who attack females almost always come from fatherless homes.


Spare the rod, spoil the child.

Violence should be understood between father and son, mostly. Spanking daughters is another issue, more delicate and complex. But daughters should be spanked too, in some extreme circumstances, mostly to demonstrate that violence can occur to both genders, and to dissuade the most dangerous and vile forms of child behaviors.

That said, many conservative parents dole-out punishment without thought, reason, foresight, and with wanton, unrestrained candor. This is just as evil as a liberal parent never punishing his/her child. So conservatives are evil to dole out punishment without reason. And liberals are evil to never spank their children (let them run wild).

Balance is the key.

And a traditional, conservative mother must never strike her children. That is the duty of the biological father.

I think sometimes you need to spank them. BUT I do not agree with serious spanking. I never spanked my daughter, but she is still too young to get in serious trouble...

I got spanked, like a LOT when I was a child and a teenager. Serious spanking. I was spanked for speaking, for being silent, for grades below 20/20, for being ugly, for being shy... Anyway, for being less than perfect. I never got over it, not entirely, but I grew up to be a normal person with no serious emotional damage. I learned to forgive.
