I got spanked, like a LOT when I was a child and a teenager. Serious spanking. I was spanked for speaking, for being silent, for grades below 20/20, for being ugly, for being shy... Anyway, for being less than perfect. I never got over it, not entirely, but I grew up to be a normal person with no serious emotional damage. I learned to forgive.

Negative reinforcement is for dogs. Humans ought have things explained to them. Even then, you wouldn't hit a dog, so I don't see why you would ever hit a human.

2 sides of the same coin. My parents did whoop my ass and 95% of the time was well deserved I gotta admit. If well it's true times do change and we are supposed to live in "modern" and "softer" times, if my kids do something deserving a beating, then I'll come after them.

I agree that humans shoud have things explained, but that's not always possible or enough. I can only imagine myself beating my daughter over some serious issue, like putting herself in danger.

I beated my dog once, when he tried to kill my friend's cat. I confess I lost it.
