In my home city in Canada quite a few people actually do not view Italians as being White really.

It's probably different today but seriously, no one in US thinks average spaniard or south italian is white, or even close. It's really just north atlantic, and that's it.

Not to be rude, but you know this is true... some Americans are really dumb. The whole thing about white and not white stems from the whole Anglo/English thing which widened to include Germans/Irish/Scandos, etc... and they think Spain & Spaniards = South America and Mexico.

In mid-western US, 40% of Southern Euros could be taken as Latino cuz mid-western White Americans are of predominantly German and Scandinavian extract and they aren't aware of European phenotype diversity.
