It is the city where I grew up, which is one of the most multiracial in the country, principally due to post-war migration (especially from the Caribbean, South Asia and East Africa) to work in the city's then textiles and hosiery factories. According to the 2011 Census, this is the city's ethnic composition:
White Groups (50.6%)
Asian (mostly Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis) (35.8%)
Black (6.3%)
Mixed (3.5%)
Chinese (1.3%)
Arab (1.0%)
Other (1.6%)

An even more detailed breakdown can be found here. White Brits are a minority at 45.1% - much of the rest of the White population is made up of relatively recent Eastern European immigrants. Of the Asians, the overwhelmingly majority are Indian at 28.3%. http://www.neighbourhood.statistics....sFamilyId=2477
