Satura quidem tota nostra est (nothing else is totally ours like Satire)

Elegia quoque Graecos provocamus, cuius mihi tersus atque elegans maxime videtur auctor Tibullus. Sunt qui Propertium malint. Ovidius utroque lascivior, sicut durior Gallus. Satura quidem tota nostra est, in qua primus insignem laudem adeptus Lucilius quosdam ita deditos sibi adhuc habet amatores ut eum non eiusdem modo operis auctoribus sed omnibus poetis praeferre non dubitent. The best part of my Latin classes (for me) was learning Latin phrases. My favourites:

    1. Ab alio expectes alteri quod feceris - Expect to receive such treatment as you have given
    2. Amicus omnibus, amicus nemini - A friend to all, a friend to none
    3. Caelum non animum mutant qui trans mare currunt - Those who hurry across the sea change the sky [upon them], not their souls or state of mind
    4. Civitas viri sunt, non moenia - State is people not walls
    5. Culpam maiorum posteri luunt - Descendants pay for the shortcomings of their ancestors (The sins of the fathers)
    6. Divide et impera - Divide in order to conquer (Divide and rule)
    7. Hoc natura est insitum, ut quem timueris, hunc semper oderis - It's an innate thing to always hate the one we've learnt to fear
    8. Ubi concordia, ibi victoria - Where there is unity, there is victory.

I especially like Latin war phrases:

    1. In pace, ut sapiens, aptarit idonea bello - In peace, like a wise man, he appropriately prepares for war
    2. Nullum bellum suscipi a civitate optima, nisi aut pro fide, aut pro salute - A war is never undertaken by the ideal state, except in defense of its honor or its safety
    3. Nervi belli pecunia infinita - Unlimited money is the muscle of war

    and phrases about death/dying

    1. Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori - It is sweet and proper to die for one's country
    2. Cineri gloria sera est - Glory paid to ashes comes too late
    3. Eram quod es, eris quod sum - I was what you are, you will be what I am
    4. Non omnis moriar - Not all of me will die.
