Same here, kinda. My grand-grand-grand-grand-parents had the same name and were from the same village, yet this side of my family is very healthy.
It doesn't surprise me that biology would favor mild endogamy. I should use our big pan-familial reunions to get laid.

Even second cousin is fairly unrelated, if I remember how it works right. In say ireland or scotland I bet everyone who did not come from elsewhere is 4th or 5th cousin.

4th cousins having children obviously isn't incest or dangerous at all. It's pretty much been the norm through all of human history and in most animal species as well.
The study isn't really that scientific though, there could have been other reason why 3rd/4th cousins had more kids than 8th cousins.
8th cousins are pretty distantly related. Most of those people would have lived in the city and not in a village.
Urban lifestyle = less traditional lifestyle = slightly less kids.

Third and fourth cousins are not considered incest anymore. The bloodline is to far apart.
