Yes. I think the celebration of name days is a recent phenomenon introduced by the Greek church which had a big influence in Vardar Macedonia (especially the south) near the end of the Ottoman rule in Macedonia.

Basically, every saint has a designated day in the Orthodox calender. For example: Petrovden (st peter's day) is celebrated on the 29th of June on the orthodox calendar. Whoever is named Peter (Petar, Peco, Petranka, Petrovski etc) has a name day, where during the whole day family members and friends come to your home uninvited with food and gifts.

Slava is the most beautiful celebration in the Balkans. It's actually a very "tribal-clan" celebration as slavas are tied to your blood line. Also you have to gather back to your oldest paternal progenitor if he's alive. This to me is one of the best celebrations and most beautiful.

I agree. I suppose it connects you with your ancestors going back hundreds of years! And that's a good thing.

we don't have "pseudo-slava" but we have Lady Virgin patron day for every clan, identical to other Catholics.

this is from one Lady Virgin fest from Triesh:
