We don't use camels in Turkey ,except for a limited area ..Aegean nomads or Aegean villlages use camels and have traditional camel wrestling

It has do with the fact the Middle East is Semitic/Arab dominated region. I personally see the Middle East and will include them as Middle Easterners because they are part of the Oriental civilization, which had an Arabian root but a Persianate cultural influences, and the Ottomans were a Persianate and patrons of Persian culture. They might be offended because it brings about negative prejudices and want to distance themselves from it and are to extent Westernized. Though I would agree that countries like Armenia and the Caucasus are not the Middle East, apart from Azerbaijan which has a lot of Persian cultural influence which connects ultimately to the Oriental/Islamic Middle Eastern civilization. Turkey is geographically in the Middle East and Europe, it's transition, some embrace it others don't it depends on the person.

Because Turkey isn't really like the Arabic countries. It has a strong Balkan element to it as well as a Caucasian element. You have places like the Aegen coast and the Black Sea which are quite different from anywhere south of the border. Anatolia is its own special place that straddles both worlds. Istanbul feels more Balkan than MENA if we are using the Semitic countries as a measuring scale TBH.

Because there "caucasian" has a practical and actual meaning as identity, but in austria turks fall under the southern category, like syrians or afghans, they arent brown but they are southern and they are no different then middle easterners like iranians, syrians, lebanese etc. caucasians has here little meaning, outside science and medicine, in practice turks are treated as another race and POC
