It's one of those things that has also petered out into nothingness nowadays. It isn't even really worth commenting on.

I remember reading about these people when I was a kid and even then it was something that was beyond fringe.

I think there is some interesting stuff behind the reasoning of the alien abduction hysteria phenomenon that was big in the 70s - 90s from a psychological standpoint but I don't think the "community" around that exists anymore in any robust sense.
