Also, in response to the thread, males that say things like "nice guys finish last" tend not to be the "nice guys" they claim to be since their primary intentions are always to get laid and not to become friends with females, I have the feeling that if they simply switched their priorities they would have a much better chance of getting laid. Also the friend zone isn't exclusive to males, not even exclusive to hetero-gender friendships, I know I have a number of female friends, who I'd consider to be in my friendzone, and I in theirs.
I don't understand how having a female friend can be seen as a negative thing, if anything it's more likely to boost a male's chance of success in the long run, it'll give him a better idea of what certain types of female like, not to mention the increased security and quality of character being surrounded by female friends and acquaintances implies to potential mates.
Also it really depends on the context we use "nice guys finish last", in some situations, a male finishing last is considered polite.
