But is the UK Government obliged by its own Constitution to allow Scotland to split off, should the "yes" have the majority of votes on the referendum? Or could they, theoretically, make a tantrum and ignore its legitimacy despite international pressure?

Scotland joined the 'Empire' and not really what Britain is now. We had a bunch of greedy folk, that wanted use in the colonies, after the Darien Scheme that bankrupted the rich. Who were handed a bob or two.

Scots were fond of Canada, New Zealand & Australia as much as it was of England, Wales & Ireland. Britain is slowly unpacking to original settings, losing it'e Empire & Ireland.

I wonder if my job would leave the country as it's a company based and working for England and Wales primarily.

UK has no constitution. Unlike Spain, Italy & France. We have also had an independent court, police & law forever. Wouldn't be hard to split.

I really think Northern Ireland should go first then we can see how we feel about being simply Great Britain. It is a single island, after all.

I think it would make things very interesting if Scotland voted to become independent. It would really stir things up even here in Australia. I can imagine Aussies questioning their ties to the UK if such an important part of the UK decided to become independent. There are already a lot of people here that want Australia to be a republic. It would shake things up in Northern Ireland as well and I'm not quite sure whether that would be for the better or not.

I really would be very surprised if the Scots vote yes. I don't think they will.

Why Northern Ireland? They have very little in common with southern Ireland. NI should remain part of the UK.
