Let's look at this crap from a bit more logical point of view.
so:
1) you did something considered as wrong, it isn't explained what exactly, but let's say social norms are equal to the divine norms, (XDDDDD)
ergo - you called someone a faggot after he disrespected you, so you are going to get punished
2) karma can start working even after your current life, so lets say you are reincarnated as a fully new person with no memory of anything before your birth, yet... you are going to get punished
SO:
a) you wont even know what is your punishment for, cuz you have no memory
b) lets say you did something "wrong" in self defence, not like jesus who allowed other people to kill him.
so justice is kinda on your side, right? no, karma says otherwise. no, you cant defend yourself, you must accept your fate and get yourself killed by some drunk thug.
CONCLUSION:
for doing something bad in the past, the universe will give you twice more that amount of evil in your next life (very smart), but you wouldnt know what is this for, so you will feel miserable and probably start doing even more evil because you begin to believe life is unfair, shitty and you need some way to express your anger connected with that belief etc
TL;DR VERSION: you do something bad, later possibly forget about it (or even regret it), but then we give you twice more of evil shit so you can feel like shit and start doing more evil, this time on purpose
