Im actually most surprised by the number of skyscrapers and density that Moscow has. Perhaps it was my impression from old photos, but most of Moscow seemed to be covered by old Soviet style blocs, but it seems like Moscow has really developed a lot of newer skyscrapers with high density in the last few years.

What an expensive waste of money though. Soon people will be mostly working from home and they don't need those expensive buildings anymore. It's just a "let's show who has the biggest cock on the block"- kind of thinking. Never mind the fact that RP "conveniently" leaves out some details known as "zoning laws", "economic necessity" and "suitable soil". Building skyscrapers with that soggy soil would be a bad idea. And they know it. That's why they can't be arsed - unless there is a real necessity. In comes the economic necessity: why the f... would you need big towers when businesses are more and more moving to the 'burbs - close to the airports and the motorways ? And why build them when you can't find the occupants. And even the Pravda (no truth there - like there is no news in the Iztvestia either) finds itself forced to admit it. Building empty buildings just to show the world you have a big cock is so 20th century and something only insecure loser states do. If anything it shows Russia's real position in the world: an insecure loser state "look at how big my cock is, how little common sense I have and how insecure I feel."
Whereas in China, Japan, Singapore but also New York they may be necessary: in Russia they are most certainly not - they have the space and its not at a premium. What a way to ruin your resources: tanks and high buildings.
