    Default Finnish ethnogenesis

What can you guys tell me about the ethnogenesis of your people? What are the peoples or population groups that migrated into finland and from where and how they merged to become finns.Your origins are less well known than with other european peoples, although I know a little and especially that you are finno-ugric of course.

I short, majority of Finnish genes and culture comes from the Finnic and Germanic peoples and this happened from the Nordic Bronze Age to the Viking Age.
They migrated from the South and South East, they where agricultural people but where most likely coming after the fur, game and fish they could export to far away lands.

This is naturally much more complex than this but this is an accurate simplification easy to understand.

Other major components of this ethnogenesis are population X (we dont know who they where) and Sami like populations that where here first.

Pretty simple. Genetically Swedish-like coastal inhabitants are over-run by Russian-like Finns from Karelia.

Not really, that would fit better in what happened in Estonia before the move to Finland.

I know "Russian-like" sounds bad from a Finnish perspective, but I don't know how else to put it.
If you look here, you see Finns have a lot of the "east_European" genetic component:
But anyway, my point was N-E Finns and S-W Finns are different. Like 2 populations colliding.

It does not sound bad, many Russians are part Finnic, that is not the point.

The East Finns have a different route in present Finland trough the Karelian isthmus or some even more north, West Finns came from NW Estonia by the sea or from even more south for the germanics.

West Finns are Tavastians, East Finns are Karelians, in a simplified way, they used to fight each other until historical times.

Genetically, Finns including south western Finns are more similar to Karelians, Vepsa and northern Russians than to Estonians. In fact, the closest populations to Finns the ones I mentioned : http://postimg.org/image/5t3d2j8mf/full/

Also MDS plot from published study : http://www.plosone.org/article/fetch...e.0058552.s003

West Finns have mixed after arriving but linguistics/toponomy, archeology and Y-DNA show the route.
