Maybe. But I'm more into the original mysticism that brought Hindu Religion into being (and thus Buddhism). Politheistic elements were brought to the Indian sub-continent by the Indo-Europeans, so the roots of this unique way to percieve reality belongs to the prior civilisation. I also think that the Abrahamic Prophets somehow ventured into this mystical perception. I mean the idea that everything material, time and space is related, yet there is a higher sphere of existance which by definition cannot be explained so only hints can be given through paragons. I experimented myself...

Thats one way to look at it. The other way to look at it is that religions may contain partial insight into reality, something like alcoholic's moment of clarity. Hinduism, and Buddhism have a concept of karma in common, but even that concept is different in both. There are no prior roots for Buddhism. Buddhism is unique, and any similarities to any other system are accidntal or superficial. But to know that you have to know Buddhism. There is no God or his plan, or immortal soul, etc in Buddhism. People called Buddhism, religion, psychology, philosophy what have you, but it is none of those, and at the same time it's more than any of those. It is a deeply spiritual path, that relies on Dhamma/reality as its guide and support while striving for emancipation from the conditoned manifestation of reality.
There are no beliefs in Buddhism, the practice is experiential, and strives to align the mind with the real nature of reality, freeing it from the illusion of its apparent nature.
In short, Buddhism spiritually is closer to Tao, than it is to Hinduism.
I know Indians are not gonna like this, and they consider the noble Buddha an incarnation of Vishnu, if I am not mistaken, but it's the truth.

There is no mysticism in Buddhism. There are no mystical forces miracles and other non-sense concept in Buddhism. Once again, Buddhist is to verify everything experientially by, and for himself. Thinking up some mystic concepts of anything including reality is not Buddhism. Remember, the goal is to see reality directly, without distortion, or filters of any kind.
Mystic visions is not a part of Buddhism.
I know there are unorthodox sects out there, but their vision of Buddhism is specific to them not Buddhism itself.
